Learning Detours, through action learning, aims to bring together business teams or groups of individuals who seek to find solutions to different challenging, complex, urgent or even fictional problems, while having fun and learning something new

Through physical action (using not only our brains and abstract concepts, but also our hands and all our senses) successful strategies to address pressing problems can be formulated in a much more creative, flexible, engaging and fun environment.

Action Learning is a process that involves teams working on real problems, taking action, and learning as individuals, as a team, and as an organisation.

The action learning process includes:

1. a real problem that is important and usually complex,
2. a diverse problem-solving team,
3. a process that promotes curiosity, inquiry, and reflection,
4. a requirement for action and, ultimately, a solution, and
5. a commitment to learning.

Action Learning helps individuals, teams and organisations:

• develop positive, mutually-respectful working relationships,
• enhance problem-solving and decision-making capabilities,
• reflect and learn from collective experience,
• establish a culture of engagement, involvement and performance,
• achieve lasting behaviour change,
  
• enhance personal leadership and soft skills,
• build high performance teams.

Complex problems require many technical and soft skills, as well as a creative environment,  where individual team members can develop a customized learning agenda for themselves. This strategy in itself, is quite different from "one size fits all" curriculum that characterises many traditional training and development programs.
