The Six Thinking Hats is a simple but powerful technique, which can be used by individuals or groups. The technique is based on the principles of Parallel Thinking and can have a dramatic impact on the situation being considered. The Six Thinking Hats provides a structured thinking process which allows for collaborative, focused and directed thinking that produces immediate results.

Storytelling

Stories are told to inspire change, to convince or to share knowledge. In organizations, stories contribute to the production, reproduction, transformation, and deconstruction of organizational values and beliefs. Organizational members dramatize organizational life through stories transforming mundane events into symbolic artifacts that contribute to the organization’s history. What is the story of your business?

SCAMPER

At any point in a creative-thinking situation, alone or in a group, new solutions emerge when those involved force themselves to view the problem or the proposed solution from a different perspective. SCAMPER is a mnemonic that stands for, Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, Reverse. Using any or all of the seven thinking challenges, will help produce surprising and very useful results.

Design thinking

Design thinking is a process for creative problem solving. It utilizes elements from the designer's toolkit like empathy and experimentation to arrive at innovative solutions. The Design thinking process describes a human-centered, iterative design process consisting of 5 steps—Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. Design thinking is useful in tackling problems that are ill-defined or unknown.

World Café Dialogue

What’s the difference between a business meeting and a conversation at a café? The World Cafe is a method for improving large-group discussions by borrowing concepts from the informal “café” conversations that we have all the time: round tables, cross-pollinating ideas, and pursuing questions that matter.

Brainwriting

Some of the best ideas come about by combining ideas from multiple players. Brainwriting is a simple way to generate ideas, share them, and subsequently build on them within a group. Access to multiple hands, eyes, and minds can yield surprisingly interesting results.

Five Ws and one H

The Five Ws and one H (Who? Where? When? What? Why? How?), is a “reporter's questions” technique. The answers to these simple (5+1) questions cover the basic information needed to solve a problem or write a story. The aim of this inquiry approach is to understand the given problem more precisely in order to be able to define it better and to find a solution.
